FAQs

How can I donate?
Is my donation tax deductible?
Will I receive a donation receipt immediately after giving, and is it different from the year-end tax receipt?

Yes, you will receive an immediate donation receipt right after your gift is processed. You will receive a tax-compliant receipt via email usually within 24 to 48 hours of the donation. This receipt confirms the details of your single donation, such as the amount and date, and serves as official documentation for your tax records. Monthly donors will receive a monthly receipt.

Additionally, at the end of the year, donors receive an annual receipt that consolidates all their donations—including every monthly recurring gift made during that year—into one comprehensive summary for tax filing purposes. This year-end receipt differs from the monthly receipts in that it summarizes the total giving rather than individual transactions.

We are a registered nonprofit corporation in the State of Alabama and have filed our application for official 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status with the IRS. We fully expect a positive determination soon, and once approved, all donations are tax-deductible retroactively to our date of application.

So, the answer is yes, any donations received now and going forward will be tax deductible once the IRS determination is final.

We recommend consulting a tax professional for advice with respect to the deductibility of charitable donations in your specific situation.

We occasionally have needs for specific items like large-print books, unopened puzzles and board games, or supplies for our art classes. Since our storage is limited, please contact Wendy, our center director before dropping anything off. A receipt will be offered for items valued at $250 or more.

Can I make a donation in honor or in memory of someone?

Yes, during the online donation process, you'll find a field to specify who your gift is in honor or memory of. We are happy to send an acknowledgment to the family.

How can I include the Senior Center in my will or trust?

You can make a gift through your will or trust by naming "Friends of the Trussville Senior Activity Center" as a beneficiary. We recommend speaking with your attorney or financial advisor to help you arrange a bequest. They can ensure your wishes are carried out exactly as you'd like.

Do you offer a recurring donation option?

Want to make a lasting impact? Becoming a monthly donor is the most powerful way to support our seniors. Your recurring gift gives us the confidence to plan for the future, knowing we'll have the steady resources to provide consistent care and launch long-term programs. It’s easy to set up – just choose the 'Monthly' option on our donation page!"

Yes, we are equipped to accept some of these significant non-cash donations. Because each situation is unique (and sometimes involves legal or tax considerations), these types of gifts are reviewed and approved by our board on a case-by-case basis.

Gifts like these can make a transformative impact on our seniors for years to come.

Is my online donation secure?

Yes, our donation page is processed through a secure system that encrypts your information to ensure your personal and financial data is kept safe.

Can I use a credit or debit card to make my donation?

Absolutely! Using a credit or debit card is one of the easiest and most secure ways to give. When you click the "Donate" button, our secure payment page accepts all major cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

Can I change, pause or cancel monthly donations?

Yes, you can change your monthly recurring donation anytime. Just send us a message through this website or by email and we'll be happy to handle the change for you.

What if I'm not comfortable with online forms or just want some help donating?

We completely understand and would be delighted to help! Please give our President Doug Smith a call at (251) 279-0494. He will securely take your donation information over the phone and process it for you. Your support means the world to us, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to contribute.

Where does my donation go?
Can I mail a check to donate?

Absolutely! We know that for many of our supporters, writing a check is the easiest and most comfortable way to give, and we gratefully welcome your donation.

Please make your check payable to "Friends of the Trussville Senior Activity Center" and mail it to our secure address:

PO BOX 572 TRUSSVILLE AL 35173-4800

Once we receive your gift, we will process it and enter it into our donation system. If you provide an email address (either in a note or on the check's memo line), you'll receive the same official tax receipt that our online donors get. If not, we will happily mail a receipt to the address on your check.

The fastest and most direct way to support our seniors is by clicking the Donate button on this page. Our online form is simple to use, and your gift will be processed immediately through our secure system.

Because Friends of the Trussville Senior Activity Center is an all-volunteer organization, we can keep our administrative costs incredibly low. We have no staff salaries to pay, which is typically the largest expense for any nonprofit.

This means the vast majority of your donation—typically around 95%—goes directly to funding programs and activities that enrich the lives of seniors in our community. The small remainder covers essential operational costs.

Is it possible to direct my gift for a particular purpose?

While the most impactful way to give is through a general donation, we completely understand if you have a special place in your heart for a specific program!

Why general giving helps most: A general gift gives our board the flexibility to address the most urgent needs as they arise. Our Center Director regularly identifies where support is needed most —and makes recommendations to our volunteer board to ensure your donation has the greatest possible impact on our seniors.

If you have a specific passion: If you’d like your gift to go toward something specific—like our art classes, wellness programs, or a seasonal event—we are more than happy to honor that wish!

Online: Just let us know how you’d like the funds used in the "comment" field on our donation form.

By Check: Simply write the program name on the memo line.

From time to time, we also run special campaigns for specific projects. You are always welcome to donate directly to those initiatives when they land!
